DOORWIN Doors and Windows Island Tour - Colonial and Modern - Colorful Curacao

How Doorwin Doors and Windows " survive " on a tropical island

Willemstad, known as the "Amsterdam of the Western Hemisphere", is a metropolis on the Caribbean island of Curaçao. The buildings of Willemstad Inner City and the Port Monuments area are as colorful as chalk crayons, retaining the style of the Dutch colonial period in the 17th~18th centuries. In modern times, Willemstad City has become the premier commercial and industrial center and port of Curaçao, in line with modern civilization. In addition to the preservation of monuments, since the 20th century, the islanders of Curaçao have preferred residential buildings with straight lines, and bright and simple housing to dilute the colors left on the island by colonial architecture. This is not the first island window and door project Doorwin has done, but it was a very special and enjoyable experience.

Curaçao, like most islands floating on the ocean, is sunny, flat, crystal clear waters, fascinating architecture, floating markets, isolated bays, and colorful fauna and flora. It is below 200 meters above sea level and has hills in between. The south shore is tortuous, with natural harbors, and the west side is full of coral reefs. In tropical dry climates, the average monthly temperature is between 26-28 ℃. Such a pleasant natural environment is the sea palace of the Caribbean for tourists, but for residents, how to maximize the comfort of housing is the most important. So doorwin, as a window and door manufacturer with extensive export experience and research on climate and housing habits around the world, crossed the Atlantic Ocean and took on this interesting challenge.

Based on these challenges, we offer our clients the following solutions: Thermal break aluminum profile tilt and turn window+awning window

The tilt and turn window has two ways to open, which can enjoy a good view under the premise of ensuring ventilation, and the hanging window also matches this simple style, which is very good at preventing the invasion of the island heat wave.

Determined the window (opening method), we began the challenge!

Challenge 1:

Long sunshine time, long-term sunlight is easy to cause fading and cracking of the surface of doors and windows, which has high requirements for the surface treatment of doors and windows.  High indoor temperature, how to save living costs (reduce the use of air conditioning) while ensuring the best thermal insulation effect.

Challenge 2:

The natural disadvantages of the island. High wind pressure, there is a risk of hurricane damage, the wind pressure resistance of doors and windows is required.

Beautiful islands, charming architecture, and similar climatic conditions, the Doorwin team has provided many island customers with the best door and window solutions, we have exported to Grenada, Aruba, Trinidad, and Tabogo, Jamaica... Feedback from all customers has been good. We are confident to bring you the best door and window buying experience on the other side of the ocean! If you want to know more about our company or products, please contact us! or leave us a message, our most professional team would escort your project!

To accomplish these challenges, we have done the following:

01 / Powder coating surface treatment:

To solve the damage to the window profile caused by long-term sunlight and ensure the beauty and cleanliness of the outdoor side of the window to the greatest extent, the doorwin team did a powder-coated surface treatment on the surface of the profile. This will make the surface of the product smooth and uniform in color, and at the same time make the surface of the aluminum profile after this finish have strong acid resistance, alkali resistance, impact resistance, wear resistance, can withstand strong ultraviolet radiation and acid rain erosion for a long time, and do not appear coating pulverization, fading, falling off and other phenomena.

Powder-coated aluminum profiles have a service life of up to 30 years under normal conditions. Its surface coating is guaranteed to not fade, do not change color, do not crack within 5-10 years, and its weather resistance and corrosion are better than ordinary aluminum. From the perspective of the process itself, it has a fairly high scientific and technological component, which is more in line with the needs of interior decoration, and is also consistent with the trend of the application of aluminum profiles in the construction industry to the development of interiors. In particular, the combination of spraying profiles and heat insulation broken bridges makes it more fashionable, which cannot be replaced by profiles produced by other treatment methods.

02 / Glass Treatment - LOW-E Coating:

The island has a tropical climate, with an average monthly temperature of 26-28°C, high indoor temperature, for the purpose of energy saving and heat insulation, doorwin team chose to paste a Low-E film on the glass. then it becomes a kind of low emissions glass, which means it has a low ability to absorb the outside energy, then it will release less heat energy. So it can enhance the heat insulation performance of the glass. It also can lower the SC(shading coefficient) to enhance the energy efficiency of the glass... Mostly we use 80% high transparency low e-glass. Generally speaking, Low-E glass can reflect exterior heat in warm temperatures and hold in heat during cold temperatures, making the building light, bright and energy-efficient.

03 / To solve the problem of challenge 2:
Laminated glass

We prepared our customers in advance for windows to withstand wind and even hurricanes, and with the belief that customers would not be bothered by high wind pressure, Doorwin chose laminated glass. Hurricane windows are engineered to be safer and withstand more extreme weather conditions than windows with standard glass. A strong hurricane glass, also called laminated glass, is installed in place of the standard window glass. Hurricane glass is designed to withstand extreme wind speeds as well as protect against wind-borne debris.

It is precise because PVB has high toughness and strong adhesion that after the laminated glass is broken, the fragments remain in place, which is more suitable for use in hurricane areas and earthquake areas. At the same time, architectural laminated glass made of PVB film can effectively reduce the transmission of sunlight. It has strong UV resistance. Its PVB film can absorb more than 99% of ultraviolet rays, protecting indoor furniture, textiles, plastic products, artworks, ancient cultural relics, or cabinet goods from ultraviolet radiation, thereby avoiding fading and aging. This is exactly the best glass choice for island customers!

About Doorwin

Doorwin's professional packing system guarantees all products are delivered safely and without any damage. We apply a four-point packing system. Firstly, adhesive plastic film is applied on interior wood frames and exterior aluminum frames to avoid scratches on the surface.
