Double Casement Window Dimensions: A Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners

When it comes to choosing the perfect windows for your home, double casement windows are a popular and versatile option. These windows consist of two separate panels that swing open or closed on hinges, providing excellent ventilation and natural light. In this comprehensive guide, we will delve into the world of double casement window dimensions, helping you make an informed decision for your home.

Understanding Double Casement Windows

Double casement windows, also known as French casement windows, are a type of window that features two panels hinged on either side of the frame. These panels can swing inward or outward, depending on the design, and are often operated using a crank handle or lever. This unique design allows for unobstructed views and maximum airflow when both panels are open, making them an attractive option for homeowners looking to enhance their living spaces.

Standard Double Casement Window Dimensions

While there is no one-size-fits-all approach to double casement window dimensions, there are some standard sizes that manufacturers and builders often use. These standard sizes can help you get a sense of what might work best for your home. Typically, double casement windows are available in the following standard dimensions:

Width: 24 inches to 72 inches

Height: 36 inches to 72 inches

It is important to note that these dimensions are for the entire window unit, including both panels. The individual panels will be half the width of the overall window size. For example, a 48-inch wide double casement window will have two 24-inch wide panels.

Custom Double Casement Window Dimensions

If the standard double casement window dimensions do not suit your needs or design preferences, you can opt for custom sizes. Many manufacturers offer custom window sizes, allowing you to create the perfect fit for your home. When ordering custom double casement windows, you will need to provide the manufacturer with the following measurements:

Overall window width (including both panels)

Overall window height

Individual panel width (half the overall width)

Keep in mind that custom double casement windows may come with a higher price tag than standard sizes, so be sure to factor this into your budget when making your decision.

Factors to Consider When Choosing Double Casement Window Dimensions

There are several factors to consider when selecting the dimensions for your double casement windows. These factors can impact the overall aesthetics, functionality, and energy efficiency of your windows. Some key factors to keep in mind include:

1. Room size and layout: The size and layout of the room in which you plan to install your double casement windows can influence the dimensions you choose. Larger windows can make a small room feel more spacious, while smaller windows may be better suited for rooms with limited wall space.

2. Architectural style: The architectural style of your home can also play a role in determining the best dimensions for your double casement windows. For example, traditional homes may benefit from taller, narrower windows, while contemporary homes might look best with wider, shorter windows.

3. Ventilation and natural light: One of the main benefits of double casement windows is their ability to provide excellent ventilation and natural light. When selecting dimensions, consider how much airflow and sunlight you want to bring into the room.

4. Energy efficiency: Larger windows can provide more natural light and reduce the need for artificial lighting, but they can also lead to greater heat loss or gain. When choosing dimensions, consider how the size of your windows will impact your home's energy efficiency and heating/cooling costs.

5. Window treatments: The dimensions of your double casement windows can affect the type and size of window treatments you choose. Be sure to consider how different window sizes will work with your preferred curtains, blinds, or shades.

Tips for Measuring for Double Casement Window Dimensions

When measuring for double casement window dimensions, accuracy is key. Follow these tips to ensure you get the correct measurements for your new windows:

1. Measure the width and height of the existing window opening, not the window itself.

2. Take measurements from the inside of the window frame, not the outside.

3. Measure the width and height in multiple locations, as window openings can be slightly irregular. Use the smallest measurements to ensure your new windows will fit.

4. Consult with a professional to verify your measurements before ordering your double casement windows.

In conclusion, selecting the right double casement window dimensions for your home is an important decision that involves careful consideration of various factors. By understanding standard and custom sizes, taking into account the factors that influence window dimensions, and accurately measuring your window openings, you can find the perfect double casement windows to enhance your home's beauty and functionality.

INSPIRATION & SOLUTION

This newly built private house is in Sydney, Australia. The area occupied by the fenestration system in our scheduled design drawings was up to more than 110 square meters. A wide range of design details made the perfect mix of modern aesthetics and traditional sophistication, the simulated vertical hung windows with tilt & turn opening systems in this home are absolutely breathtaking. SDLS (Simulated Divided Lites with Spacer Bar) brings some historical vintage feeling to the whole building without losing any energy saving performance. Long narrow fixed windows creating larger-than-life expenses, coupled with German high-end systems made this project stand out from the rest.

Simulated Hung Window with Tilt & Turn Openings

The client's idea was to maintain a certain vintage feel, and our aim was to meet the energy efficiency needs and standards of modern houses as much as possible while maintaining a retro design. Doorwin’s 61S simulated hung windows with tilt & turn openings is a respectful modernization of a classic architectural masterwork.

Why choose the tilt and turn opening method?

Because it generally has better air seals than sliding, single hung, or double hung window frames. Tilt and turn windows form a complete seal when fully closed, this means they are less prone to water leakage, and cold draughts and you’ll keep more of your heating indoors where it belongs. They can be opened in the upper tilt way to ventilate at a minimum opening status and are easy to clean outside of the glass; when there’s a good day, they can be opened as normal inward casement windows.

Large Energy Efficient Fixed Windows

Our well-crafted bespoke systems enhance the functionality and panoramic view of this modern house.

Huge, fixed glass walls up to seven meters long and two meters high bring great lighting and open views, making it really refreshing to the mind. Five meters high long narrow windows give the whole building a contemporary aesthetic.

Every window’s placement and shape not only add to the uniqueness of this home but also provide a more energy-saving ability for the owners.

Doorwin energy-efficient integrated glazing units feature double-pane glass, warm-edge spacers, argon gas fill, Low-E coatings, and fully tempered glass, they can not only create a comfortable and natural indoor environment but also save electricity bills and heating bills of more than 100 USD for the owner, it’s a real bargain compared to choosing a regular glazing set.
