Are Flush Casement Windows More Expensive? Comparing Costs and Benefits

When it comes to home improvements, choosing the right windows is a crucial decision. Flush casement windows have become increasingly popular in recent years, but are they more expensive than other window styles? In this in-depth analysis, we'll explore the costs and benefits of flush casement windows to help you make an informed decision for your home.

What are Flush Casement Windows?

Flush casement windows are a type of window where the opening window sash sits flush with the outer frame when closed. This creates a sleek, modern appearance that complements both traditional and contemporary homes. They are often made from uPVC, timber, or aluminum and can be customized to suit any home's aesthetic.

Price Comparison: Flush Casement Windows vs. Other Window Styles

To determine whether flush casement windows are more expensive, it's essential to compare them to other popular window styles, such as standard casement windows, sliding sash windows, and tilt and turn windows.

Standard Casement Windows

Standard casement windows are similar to flush casement windows, but the opening sash protrudes slightly from the outer frame when closed. They are available in various materials, including uPVC, timber, and aluminum. In general, standard casement windows are less expensive than flush casement windows. However, the price difference may be minimal, depending on the material and manufacturer.

Sliding Sash Windows

Sliding sash windows, also known as vertical sliders, are a more traditional window style. They feature two sashes that slide vertically, one in front of the other. These windows are often found in period properties and can be made from uPVC, timber, or aluminum. Sliding sash windows are usually more expensive than flush casement windows due to their complex design and mechanisms.

Tilt and Turn Windows

Tilt and turn windows are a versatile window style that can be opened in two ways: by tilting the window inwards for ventilation or by turning it 90 degrees for easy cleaning. These windows are often made from uPVC or aluminum. Tilt and turn windows can be more expensive than flush casement windows, depending on the material and manufacturer.

Factors Affecting the Cost of Flush Casement Windows

Several factors can influence the cost of flush casement windows, including:

1. Material:Flush casement windows are available in uPVC, timber, and aluminum. Timber windows tend to be the most expensive option, followed by aluminum and uPVC.

2. Size:Larger windows will generally be more expensive than smaller windows.

3. Glazing:The type of glazing you choose can impact the cost of your windows. Double glazing is standard, but triple glazing or specialized glazing, such as acoustic or solar control glass, can increase the price.

4. Hardware and Finishing Touches:The choice of handles, locks, and other hardware, as well as any additional finishing touches, such as decorative glazing or custom colors, can affect the overall cost of your flush casement windows.

5. Installation:The cost of installation will vary depending on the complexity of the project and the installer's rates.

Benefits of Flush Casement Windows

Though flush casement windows may be more expensive than some other window styles, they offer several benefits that may justify the additional cost:

1. Aesthetic Appeal:Flush casement windows provide a clean, modern appearance that suits both traditional and contemporary homes.

2. Energy Efficiency:Flush casement windows typically have excellent energy efficiency ratings due to their tight seal when closed. This can help reduce your heating and cooling costs.

3. Security:Flush casement windows often feature multi-point locking systems, providing an added layer of security for your home.

4. Easy Maintenance:uPVC and aluminum flush casement windows require minimal maintenance, making them an attractive option for homeowners who want a low-maintenance window solution.

5. Customization:Flush casement windows can be customized in various colors, finishes, and glazing options to suit your home's style.

In conclusion, flush casement windows may be more expensive than some other window styles, but their sleek appearance, energy efficiency, and customization options make them an attractive choice for many homeowners. By considering the factors that influence the cost of flush casement windows and weighing the benefits, you can determine whether this window style is the right investment for your home.

INSPIRATION & SOLUTION

This newly built private house is in Sydney, Australia. The area occupied by the fenestration system in our scheduled design drawings was up to more than 110 square meters. A wide range of design details made the perfect mix of modern aesthetics and traditional sophistication, the simulated vertical hung windows with tilt & turn opening systems in this home are absolutely breathtaking. SDLS (Simulated Divided Lites with Spacer Bar) brings some historical vintage feeling to the whole building without losing any energy saving performance. Long narrow fixed windows creating larger-than-life expenses, coupled with German high-end systems made this project stand out from the rest.

Simulated Hung Window with Tilt & Turn Openings

The client's idea was to maintain a certain vintage feel, and our aim was to meet the energy efficiency needs and standards of modern houses as much as possible while maintaining a retro design. Doorwin’s 61S simulated hung windows with tilt & turn openings is a respectful modernization of a classic architectural masterwork.

Why choose the tilt and turn opening method?

Because it generally has better air seals than sliding, single hung, or double hung window frames. Tilt and turn windows form a complete seal when fully closed, this means they are less prone to water leakage, and cold draughts and you’ll keep more of your heating indoors where it belongs. They can be opened in the upper tilt way to ventilate at a minimum opening status and are easy to clean outside of the glass; when there’s a good day, they can be opened as normal inward casement windows.

Large Energy Efficient Fixed Windows

Our well-crafted bespoke systems enhance the functionality and panoramic view of this modern house.

Huge, fixed glass walls up to seven meters long and two meters high bring great lighting and open views, making it really refreshing to the mind. Five meters high long narrow windows give the whole building a contemporary aesthetic.

Every window’s placement and shape not only add to the uniqueness of this home but also provide a more energy-saving ability for the owners.

Doorwin energy-efficient integrated glazing units feature double-pane glass, warm-edge spacers, argon gas fill, Low-E coatings, and fully tempered glass, they can not only create a comfortable and natural indoor environment but also save electricity bills and heating bills of more than 100 USD for the owner, it’s a real bargain compared to choosing a regular glazing set.

Custom Designed Thermal Break Aluminum Entry Door

Aluminum Door offered an air of uniqueness and elegance to a home. With their luxurious patterns and beautiful finishes, it provides this house with a bounty of aesthetics and security. Aluminum entry doors allow you to resist any weather extremes, corrosion, and pests. So aluminum is one of the most resilient and durable materials you can select for front doors considering the price/performance ratio.

With pieces of double panes, and Low-E tempered glass. The door provides a good insulation performance.

Custom Designed Grilles and Transom

Divided lite windows and doors offer unique architectural solutions for buildings without compromising energy efficiency or aesthetics. Doorwin provides multiple muntin and glass options to customize your divided lite windows and doors. Further customization is available with a variety of colors and materials, creating an infinite number of design combinations to best suit your style.

In this project, we use SDLS (simulated divided lites with spacer bars), these bars permanently adhere to both sides of the glass, and spacer bars are installed between the glass, this is the most energy-efficient way to create the look of classical décor grilles. The windows in the bathroom bedroom and study have an Arch Transom Design, making these rooms, which are often used by the owner, have some traditional aesthetics.

Multi-point lock systems provide not only the burglar-resistance but also a tighter compression seam, making the window keeps good energy-efficient performance.
