Arched Casement Windows: A Timeless Classic for Modern Homes

Arched casement windows have been a staple in architectural design for centuries. These windows are characterized by their unique shape, which features a rounded top and straight sides, and their ability to open outwards, providing excellent ventilation and unobstructed views. In this blog post, we will explore the history, benefits, and various design options for arched casement windows, as well as provide tips for incorporating them into your home.

A Brief History of Arched Casement Windows

Arched casement windows can be traced back to medieval Europe, where they were commonly found in churches and castles. Their popularity continued to grow during the Gothic and Renaissance periods, as architects and builders sought to create structures that were both functional and visually appealing. Today, arched casement windows remain a popular choice for homeowners and designers alike, as they offer a timeless look that can complement a wide range of architectural styles.

The Benefits of Arched Casement Windows

There are several advantages to incorporating arched casement windows into your home's design. Some of the most notable benefits include:

Enhanced Curb Appeal

Arched casement windows can add an elegant and classic touch to any home, making them an excellent choice for those looking to improve their property's curb appeal. These windows can be customized to suit your specific design preferences, with options for various materials, colors, and hardware finishes.

Improved Ventilation

Due to their ability to open outwards, arched casement windows provide excellent ventilation. This can be particularly beneficial in rooms that tend to get stuffy or humid, such as kitchens and bathrooms. Additionally, the unique shape of these windows can help to direct fresh air into your home, creating a more comfortable living environment.

Unobstructed Views

Arched casement windows typically feature a single pane of glass, which means there are no bars or mullions to obstruct your view. This can be especially advantageous for homes with picturesque surroundings, as it allows you to fully enjoy the beauty of your outdoor space.

Increased Natural Light

The large glass surface area of arched casement windows allows for an abundance of natural light to enter your home. This not only helps to create a more inviting and spacious atmosphere but can also reduce your reliance on artificial lighting, potentially leading to energy savings.

Design Options for Arched Casement Windows

When it comes to selecting arched casement windows for your home, there are several design options to consider:

Material Choices

Arched casement windows can be crafted from a variety of materials, including wood, vinyl, aluminum, and fiberglass. Each material offers its own set of benefits and drawbacks, so it's important to carefully consider your specific needs and preferences before making a decision.

Glazing Options

There are numerous glazing options available for arched casement windows, ranging from single-pane to triple-pane glass. The type of glazing you choose will depend on factors such as your climate, energy efficiency goals, and budget.

Customization Options

Arched casement windows can be customized to suit your unique design preferences. This includes options for various colors, hardware finishes, and grille patterns. Some manufacturers even offer the ability to create custom shapes and sizes, ensuring a perfect fit for your home.

Incorporating Arched Casement Windows into Your Home

When adding arched casement windows to your home, there are a few key considerations to keep in mind:

Arched casement windows can be used in a variety of locations throughout your home, including living rooms, bedrooms, and kitchens. When selecting a location for your new windows, consider factors such as the room's layout, the direction of sunlight, and the desired level of ventilation.

Coordination with Existing Architectural Features

To create a cohesive look, it's important to ensure that your new arched casement windows complement your home's existing architectural features. This may involve selecting a window style that matches your home's overall design, or choosing a material and color that coordinates with your existing siding or trim.

Professional Installation

To ensure the best possible performance and appearance, it's essential to have your arched casement windows professionally installed. A skilled contractor will be able to properly measure and fit your new windows, ensuring a seamless and secure installation.

In summary, arched casement windows offer a timeless and elegant design option for modern homes. By carefully considering factors such as placement, coordination with existing architectural features, and professional installation, you can successfully incorporate these beautiful windows into your home and enjoy the many benefits they provide.

Casement Window

Casement windows are the most common style of window. They feature hinged panels that swing open and closed. Casement windows are available in single panels or multiple panels. The direction a door swings, either to the right or the left, is called the handing. In addition to handing, window are identified as either inswing or outswing depending on whether they open into the house or towards the outside.

Freedom to dream "truly custom-made"

Doorwin provides one-stop solution for professional windows doors manufacturer and installation. We have been serving customers with our high quality and branded products in United States, Asia and worldwide.

This newly built private house is in Sydney, Australia. The area occupied by the fenestration system in our scheduled design drawings was up to more than 110 square meters. A wide range of design details made the perfect mix of modern aesthetics and traditional sophistication, the simulated vertical hung windows with tilt & turn opening systems in this home are absolutely breathtaking. SDLS (Simulated Divided Lites with Spacer Bar) brings some historical vintage feeling to the whole building without losing any energy saving performance. Long narrow fixed windows creating larger-than-life expenses, coupled with German high-end systems made this project stand out from the rest.

Simulated Hung Window with Tilt & Turn Openings

The client's idea was to maintain a certain vintage feel, and our aim was to meet the energy efficiency needs and standards of modern houses as much as possible while maintaining a retro design. Doorwin’s 61S simulated hung windows with tilt & turn openings is a respectful modernization of a classic architectural masterwork.

Why choose the tilt and turn opening method?

Because it generally has better air seals than sliding, single hung, or double hung window frames. Tilt and turn windows form a complete seal when fully closed, this means they are less prone to water leakage, and cold draughts and you’ll keep more of your heating indoors where it belongs. They can be opened in the upper tilt way to ventilate at a minimum opening status and are easy to clean outside of the glass; when there’s a good day, they can be opened as normal inward casement windows.

Large Energy Efficient Fixed Windows

Our well-crafted bespoke systems enhance the functionality and panoramic view of this modern house.

Huge, fixed glass walls up to seven meters long and two meters high bring great lighting and open views, making it really refreshing to the mind. Five meters high long narrow windows give the whole building a contemporary aesthetic.

Every window’s placement and shape not only add to the uniqueness of this home but also provide a more energy-saving ability for the owners.

Doorwin energy-efficient integrated glazing units feature double-pane glass, warm-edge spacers, argon gas fill, Low-E coatings, and fully tempered glass, they can not only create a comfortable and natural indoor environment but also save electricity bills and heating bills of more than 100 USD for the owner, it’s a real bargain compared to choosing a regular glazing set.

Custom Designed Thermal Break Aluminum Entry Door

Aluminum Door offered an air of uniqueness and elegance to a home. With their luxurious patterns and beautiful finishes, it provides this house with a bounty of aesthetics and security. Aluminum entry doors allow you to resist any weather extremes, corrosion, and pests. So aluminum is one of the most resilient and durable materials you can select for front doors considering the price/performance ratio.

With pieces of double panes, and Low-E tempered glass. The door provides a good insulation performance.

Custom Designed Grilles and Transom

Divided lite windows and doors offer unique architectural solutions for buildings without compromising energy efficiency or aesthetics. Doorwin provides multiple muntin and glass options to customize your divided lite windows and doors. Further customization is available with a variety of colors and materials, creating an infinite number of design combinations to best suit your style.

In this project, we use SDLS (simulated divided lites with spacer bars), these bars permanently adhere to both sides of the glass, and spacer bars are installed between the glass, this is the most energy-efficient way to create the look of classical décor grilles. The windows in the bathroom bedroom and study have an Arch Transom Design, making these rooms, which are often used by the owner, have some traditional aesthetics.

For windows and doors, hardware is as important as the engine is to the car. The continuous technological innovation of the European hardware industry has strongly promoted the performance improvement and functional innovation of windows and doors. In this project, Doorwin uses Hoppe™ multi-point locks, hinges, and handles from Germany.

Multi-point lock systems provide not only the burglar-resistance but also a tighter compression seam, making the window keeps good energy-efficient performance. Together with Technoform Bautec’s insulation edge bond and sealant strips, these make up our products' top insulation and energy-saving performance.
