So, let's get started!

The Basics of Crank Open Casement Windows

Crank open casement windows, also known as hinged windows, are designed with a single or double sash that is hinged on one side. These windows can be opened outward by turning a crank handle, providing excellent ventilation and an unobstructed view of the outdoors. Due to their unique opening mechanism, casement windows offer a tight seal when closed, making them energy-efficient and secure.

Benefits of Crank Open Casement Windows

There are several advantages to installing crank open casement windows in your home, including:

1. Superior Ventilation:Casement windows open fully, allowing for optimal airflow and ventilation. This is particularly beneficial in rooms that require extra fresh air, such as kitchens and bathrooms.

2. Unobstructed Views:With no horizontal bar in the middle, casement windows provide a clear, unobstructed view of the outdoors. This makes them an excellent option for homeowners who want to maximize their natural surroundings.

3. Energy Efficiency:Casement windows are known for their energy efficiency due to their tight seal when closed. This helps to keep your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter, reducing your energy bills.

4. Ease of Use:The crank handle mechanism makes casement windows easy to open and close, even for those with limited mobility.

5. Security:Casement windows are considered one of the most secure window types due to their hook-shaped locks that embed into the frame. This makes it difficult for intruders to pry them open.

Different Styles of Crank Open Casement Windows

Crank open casement windows come in a variety of styles, allowing you to find the perfect fit for your home's architecture and design. Some popular styles include:

1. Traditional Casement Windows:These windows feature a single sash hinged on one side, offering a classic and timeless look.

2. French Casement Windows:Also known as double casement windows, these have two sashes hinged on either side, opening outward like French doors. This style provides a wider opening for improved ventilation and a more dramatic appearance.

3. Push-Out Casement Windows:Instead of using a crank handle, push-out casement windows are opened by simply pushing the sash outward. This offers a sleek, modern look and is ideal for those who prefer a more minimalist design.

4. Arched Casement Windows:Featuring a curved top, arched casement windows add a touch of elegance and sophistication to any home. These windows are especially popular in historic or traditional-style homes.

Material Options for Crank Open Casement Windows

Crank open casement windows are available in a variety of materials, each with its own unique benefits and drawbacks. Some common materials include:

1. Wood:Wooden casement windows offer a timeless, classic look that complements a wide range of architectural styles. They are also energy-efficient and provide excellent insulation. However, wood windows require regular maintenance to prevent rotting, warping, and fading.

2. Vinyl:Vinyl casement windows are low-maintenance, energy-efficient, and budget-friendly. They are available in a variety of colors and styles, making them a versatile option for many homeowners. However, vinyl windows may not be as durable as other materials and may be susceptible to warping in extreme temperatures.

3. Aluminum:Aluminum casement windows are lightweight, durable, and corrosion-resistant. They are also available in a variety of colors and finishes. However, aluminum windows are not as energy-efficient as other materials and may require additional insulation to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures.

4. Fiberglass:Fiberglass casement windows are incredibly strong, durable, and energy-efficient. They are also low-maintenance and can be painted to match your home's exterior. However, fiberglass windows tend to be more expensive than other materials.

INSPIRATION & SOLUTION

This newly built private house is in Sydney, Australia. The area occupied by the fenestration system in our scheduled design drawings was up to more than 110 square meters. A wide range of design details made the perfect mix of modern aesthetics and traditional sophistication, the simulated vertical hung windows with tilt & turn opening systems in this home are absolutely breathtaking. SDLS (Simulated Divided Lites with Spacer Bar) brings some historical vintage feeling to the whole building without losing any energy saving performance. Long narrow fixed windows creating larger-than-life expenses, coupled with German high-end systems made this project stand out from the rest.

Simulated Hung Window with Tilt & Turn Openings

The client's idea was to maintain a certain vintage feel, and our aim was to meet the energy efficiency needs and standards of modern houses as much as possible while maintaining a retro design. Doorwin’s 61S simulated hung windows with tilt & turn openings is a respectful modernization of a classic architectural masterwork.

Why choose the tilt and turn opening method?

Because it generally has better air seals than sliding, single hung, or double hung window frames. Tilt and turn windows form a complete seal when fully closed, this means they are less prone to water leakage, and cold draughts and you’ll keep more of your heating indoors where it belongs. They can be opened in the upper tilt way to ventilate at a minimum opening status and are easy to clean outside of the glass; when there’s a good day, they can be opened as normal inward casement windows.

Large Energy Efficient Fixed Windows

Our well-crafted bespoke systems enhance the functionality and panoramic view of this modern house.

Huge, fixed glass walls up to seven meters long and two meters high bring great lighting and open views, making it really refreshing to the mind. Five meters high long narrow windows give the whole building a contemporary aesthetic.

Every window’s placement and shape not only add to the uniqueness of this home but also provide a more energy-saving ability for the owners.

Doorwin energy-efficient integrated glazing units feature double-pane glass, warm-edge spacers, argon gas fill, Low-E coatings, and fully tempered glass, they can not only create a comfortable and natural indoor environment but also save electricity bills and heating bills of more than 100 USD for the owner, it’s a real bargain compared to choosing a regular glazing set.
